South of Adelaide, Kangaroo Island (KI) is known as the ‘Galapagos of Australia’ for its abundance of wildlife and raw landscapes. Even Sir David Attenborough has marvelled at its wonders.

Join award-winning photographer, Danielle Lancaster and South Australian photographer Marie Linke on this special tour to Kangaroo Island during what is said to be the best season for wildlife, nature and views.

Pack your clothes, camera gear, as this tour is mostly fully catered. We travel in hire vehicles to special locations on the island and scenic tours.

This tour is suited for beginner and advanced photographers.

 

Tour costs include accommodation, meals as indicated, entry fees to all attractions as per itinerary, all transport on the island, E-pack with notes and information, one-on-one tuition; constructive feedback, task sheets and an opportunity to capture unique images. Just bring your camera gear and clothes.

August is considered the best month on Kangaroo Island for wildlife and landscape photography plus it’s a quieter time on the island.

Kangaroo Island Itinerary
Day 1: Friday 4 August 2017 (L, D)
Arrive at Penneshaw on the ferry or at Kingscote Airport and we will be there to greet you.
We will then travel to Lincoln Green Farmstay – our home for the next few nights – for you to settle in.

Afternoon exploring the historic property and sunset over a rural view to the sea.

 

A complimentary glass of wine from a boutique Barossa Valley winery and cheese will be served at sunset.
After our welcome dinner, we will review our week ahead and have a presentation by Danielle Lancaster.

Day 2: Saturday 5 August 2017 (B, D)
Take in the sunrise at Penneshaw – noted as one of the most picturesque towns on the island where we can see the mainland. This historic country town overlooks Backstairs Passage and known for its birdlife and dolphins coming into play around the bay.

Return to Lincoln Green for breakfast, download time, tutorials and feedback.

We then head to Cape Willoughby for a guided tour of the lighthouse (included), and lunch at Zest & Thyme Cafe (own cost).

Afterwards, we slowly meander through the backroads to Pennington Bay and Pelican Lagoon for afternoon photography sessions, arriving at Baudin Beach for sunset and onto Lincoln Green Farmstay for dinner and a night shoot.

Day 3: Sunday 6 August 2017 (B, D)
Sunrise at leisure and photography around Lincoln Green till 9 am when we go to a surprise location. Next is Raptor Domain for a one-hour In-Flight Birds of Prey shoot (included in tour cost).
And then we head to Seal Bay, one of the largest colonies of these sea-lions in the world and the only managed accessible Sealion colony in Australia and a very special place.

We will have lunch at Seal Bay and join a guided tour and photography session (included in tour cost). You will arrive back at Lincoln Green before dark for your last iconic sunset shoot in this amazing location.

A complimentary glass of limited-edition wine from a boutique Barossa Valley winery and cheese will be served at sunset. Our evening is spent reviewing images and tutorials.

Day 4: Monday 7 August 2017 (B, Morning and Afternoon Teas)
We depart Lincoln Green to our next surprise location before arriving in Kingscote where you have time to wander and photograph this historic town.
We will buy lunch at one of the numerous, wonderful eateries to savour more Kangaroo Island produce (at own cost).

We then head to Emu Bay – via the famous Lavender Farm, to Wisanger (historical school shoot), to Stokes Bay for afternoon tea before heading to Ficifolia Lodge before dark. Dinner that night is at the Parndana Hotel (own cost).

Day 5: Tuesday 8 August 2017  (B, D)
Depart Ficifolia Lodge at 9.30am to head to a surprise location shoot.

It’s onto the famous Vivonne Bay General Store to buy a world famous fish or lamb burger (at own cost) for lunch and photography around the jetty.

At 2 pm we do a tour of the amazing Kelly Hill Caves. (included tour costs).

Next is Flinders Chase National Park for afternoon tea at the cafe and the koala walk (where you will often see more than koalas) before heading to Cape du Couedic Heritage accommodation and a short, easy walk to Admirals Arch for another sunset.

Day 6: Wednesday 9 August 2017 (B, L, D)
Sunrise at Admirals Arch then after breakfast we make our way to Remarkable Rocks.

We head to a surprise shoot before regrouping back at Cape du Couedic for review of images, farewell drinks and sunset.

And to toast our final night on KI we have a special complimentary glass of Kangaroo Island wine and an island cheese platter to be served at sunset.

Day 7: Thursday 10 August (B)
Depart Cape du Couedic at 10 am and we will drop you off either at the ferry, airport or another accommodation venue for you to continue exploring the amazing Kangaroo Island.

Kangaroo Island is serviced daily by air by Regional Express (Rex). The flight (approx. 30 Minutes) operates between the main terminal at the Adelaide Airport and Kingscote KI Airport

Ferry
SeaLink operates vehicle and passenger ferries between Cape Jervis and Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. There are four departures daily and bookings are necessary. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes.

SeaLink operates daily coach connections from Adelaide, Goolwa and Victor Harbor to the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis and from the terminal at Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island to American River and Kingscote. Drive
Vehicles can be taken onto Kangaroo Island – refer to SeaLink information above for vehicular ferry transfers times.

Camera, manual and tripod;
Lockable cable release or remote;
Polariser filter;
2 batteries and charger;
Laptop or backup medium;
Torch or head light
Water bottle

What to bring – personal items
Daypack, long trousers, shorts, shirts, hat, closed-in walking shoes, sunglasses, raincoat, umbrella, toiletries, swim wear, towel, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, money for personal spending and meals not included.

Other Important Information on the Bluedog Photography Kangaroo Island Tour

Tour requires a minimum of 4 to proceed and there are only 8 places available

All prices are based from the ferry terminal or airport on Kangaroo Island for pick ups.
Meals included are indicated in the itinerary below: B = breakfast; L = lunch; D = Dinner

A $600 non-refundable booking fee is required. If Bluedog has to cancel for any reason this will be refunded.
The full amount is payable 60 days before departure. Tax invoices will be issued.

Those opting for the self-accommodation package are required to meet us at our starting location each day and have return transport to their accommodation nightly.

You are welcome to come to the island a day early to ensure you are well rested, we are available to assist you with accommodation arrangements.

Travel insurance is mandatory and is your responsibility. If you are driving your car own car please check your insurance policy for coverage on the island.

What level of fitness do I need?
We have designed this tour for a moderate walking level. Rest stops are scheduled along all walks.

You can arrive on KI via air or ferry. The ferry arrives at Penneshaw and you can either travel with your vehicle or as a walk-on.
A shuttle bus operates from Adelaide to the ferry departure. You will need to pre-book your place with SeaLink and the shuttle bus.

We will pick you up if flying in from the Kingscote Airport on the island or at the ferry terminal for those joining us by sea on Day 1. If you choose to arrive early, there is an array of accommodation on the island which will allow you to experience this magical location a little longer and be well rested for our great adventure to begin. Pick-ups from the ferry and airport terminals will be arranged on day 1 and drop-offs again to the ferry or airport on Kangaroo Island on Day 7.
