Photo News:The chills of autumn are certainly starting to creep in on the odd night and already there are a few bronzed leaves starting to appear hinting winter is on its way! Well that's what we saw on a recent photo shoot around some of the wineries in the Canungra district this month. We'll try and keep the news brief this issue as there's a few photos we'd also like to show off! And speaking of showing off, our lead image, shot by Nick in the Bluedog Studio last month, is world renowned sax player Darrin Potaka. Over the next couple of months the Bluedog web site is being totally redesigned - a mammoth job - but we are sure you will find it a lot more user friendly especially our Retreats & Workshops page which has grown since we first started the program a few years ago. Our image library will now be loaded onto Travpix, a detailed image library of travel, lifestyle and destination images. Bluedog is now on Facebook & Twitter. On facebook we have a page under Danielle Lancaster and have formed a Bluedog Photography Group and on Twitter - our name is Bluedogphoto - if you're on there give us a 'poke'. We'll be placing more tips, news etc weekly on each of these. And our blog is back up with tips, news, and info being placed on there every week! Since our last newsletter we have held our Tamborine Mountain Weekend Retreat and our Vanuatu tour - both were great hits! See some of the photos below that have been sent in and we are taking names for the next round of these being offered only once more this year. For more info on the retreat visit Workshops & Retreats and more info on the Vanuatu Tour visit our Vanuatu page. BIG NEWS this issue is we are looking at expanding the touring opportunities. Planning is under way for Norfolk Island in February; a Hunter Valley wines and vines tour and as our wonderful tour guide Henryk Wesierski from Holiday Coast Tours develops more up with us we'll be getting them on line - including the outback and Borneo!! We are very excited!! Our Fast Shutter Fast Cars workshop has filled very quickly so we will be planning another in July with the team at Holden. For those coming you'll receive some vouchers so if you are thinking you may like to use one on the day for a hot lap they do need to be pre booked. Please contact Rhonda Jansen at the The Holden Driving Centre and she'll explain everything: tel: 55461366 or email rhonda@thedrivingcentre.com.au Gold Coast @ Dusk is now up and running at least once a month and we have also commenced a Bluedog Refresher Photography Workshop and our Parents, Careers & Bubs days are all going great! We'd like to wish all our Mums out there a very Happy Mother's Day and remember vouchers will be available up to the evening before if someone forgets, needs a hint or maybe you just want to spoil yourself! Congratulations to Andrea Sommerville who opens her first photographic exhibition at Forest Cafe on Tamborine Mountain. If you're on the mountain check it out! Details in our What's On section below. We do enjoy seeing your images. Here's a few we have received recently:
From Vanuatu!!
Keep those fingers clicking and enjoying your photography! This newsletter is designed specifically for you, to be yours, so please

Photo Trivia: Did You Know?Infrared photography is capturing the light in the infrared wavelength that's the light above the reds in the visible spectrum - umm a little physics! We actually can't see it however it produces amazing images!Infrared images appear dreamy and are often said to have a false 'colour' known as the 'Wood Effect'. This effect is mainly caused by foliage reflecting light similar to how visible light is reflected off snow. Another alluring facet of infrared are very dark skies. The first infrared photographs to be published appeared in the October 1910 edition of the Royal Photographic Society Journal. Can you do infrared with a digital camera? YES!! But you must have: a lens with a thread to hold a filter - holding it won't work - manual settings, be able to change the ISO and white balance.

Bluedog's Eco TipBuy Cheap Buy Twice! OK if you are reading this and thinking poor ole me the recession has hit - think again. You are richer than 70% of the world's population just because you have a computer and access to the internet, you then must have a roof over your head and food in the fridge and an idea of what you are eating tonight - food for thought isn't it? We are consumers and we are consuming at a frantic rate. We actually need to slow this down. When you are about to buy something think of what it has taken to make it, what was the cost to the environment, how far has it travelled to be at your door.

Dedication
to the Masters of the Lens Described once as 'vivacious and eccentric' Julia Margaret Cameron took up photography in mid life after receiving a camera as a gift - so girls yes you can do it! Cameron was often obsessive with her new occupation. Subjects would have to sit for countless exposures, often in blinding light as she coated, exposed, and processed each wet plate. Often her results were considered 'unconventional in their intimacy' and often blurred a combination of long exposures and her intentionally having her lens out of focus. She was often ridiculed however she was one of the most advanced amateurs in her time and the result is today we have a wonderful record of her children and notable figures of this time. A shrewd business woman, she registered each and every one of her photographs with the copyright office and kept detailed records. Photography was still new and due to her fastidious ways many of her photographs are the only documentation other than paintings of numerous of these notable figures of this time. Cameron stated her photographic mission: "My aspirations are to ennoble Photography and to secure for it the character and uses of High Art by combining the real and Ideal and sacrificing nothing of the Truth by all possible devotion to Poetry and beauty."
