September 2008 Fraser Island

World heritage Listed Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world - was one of our destinations in September.
First off was King Fisher Bay Resort - if you have never been here mark it as a must do. We headed out with Ranger Chris for a day exploring the island, did a night rain forest walk with Ranger Duncan, saw humpback whales frolicking in Platypus Bay and dined like kings and queens on sumptuous food. Then we headed for Eurong on the east coast of the island. We discovered ancient rainforests, giant sand blows and miles and miles of beaches and inland tracks. We will be back!

July 2008 Vanuatu

We headed to the South Pacific and Vanuatu, an archipelago of 83 islands. Unfortunately we only had time to explore two - Efate and Tanna - but what an exploration that was! We saw "Kastom" villages where people were living almost unchanged for centuries, stood on the lip of an erupting volcano as it spat ash and molten rocks above us, tasted the local kava, indulged in retail therapy through the markets, learnt about the history at the National Museum and met many of the friendly locals which are undoubtedly the countries greatest asset.

April 2008 - Snakes Down Under

It is no secret that I do not like snakes but Ian Jenkins does! At his amazing Snakes Down Under near Childers in Queensland we got up and personal with some of the deadliest - actually the most deadliest in the world. For a little trivia, did you know thattAustralia is home to the highest number of reptile species in the world? Here in Australia we have around 150 species of slithering and sliding snake inhabitants including the world’s deadliest - the fierce snake or Inland Taipan with a dose of venom nearly 80 times more toxic than the Indian Cobra, by the way that’s enough sting to kill almost half a million mice with one bite! To be totally precise, we have the top ten most toxic snakes. We discovered why Ian is drawn to these reptiles.

November 2007 - Capricorn Coast

We have discovered a perfect getaway and only a stone's through from Brisbane - The Capricorn Coast. Venturing up in school holidays we thought we would be crushed and rushed, however it seems very few have discovered this slice of paradise. We got up and close with crocodiles, dined on sumptuous seafood delights, went to the bottom of the sea in a newly opened under water observatory, snorkeled with the dazzling fish of the Great Barrier Reef, caught our own fresh whiting for dinner, saw bull riders doing their stuff, forest potters creating unbelievable works, witnessed the endemic Byfield fern and the flowering of the pretty Byfield Grevilleas and the sun rise above the Pacific Ocean as whales played and the full moon set below the sand dunes behind us.
Do yourself a favour - get and see some of these sights!

October 2007 - Coffs Harbour
The 'Banana Capital' of Australia - Coffs Harbour - was a terrific four day escape after our epic outback trek. We stayed at the luxury Novotel Pacific Bay Resort - wonderful! Luckily for us, the weather was magnificent and we were able to enjoy all the fine attributes of this resort including some time getting right away from it all in the floatation tank followed by one of the best massages we've had to date, a round on the golf course, tennis and walks! They had to carry us out kicking and screaming! Editorial and further images available.

January 2007 - Peppers Hidden Vale

Nestled in the pretty Lockyer Valley, Peppers Hidden Vale provided us the perfect location to escape for a few days, unwind and revitalise ourselves for a busy 2007!

This luxury retreat, set on a 10,000 acre cattle station boasts elegant cottages set throughout the gardens and undoubtedly one of our highlights was dining at Cotton's Restaurant - the fresh produce prepared perfectly and accompanied by a glass or two of fine wine was an ideal way to finish our day - the Black Angus steaks our favourites!

2006 - The Great inland Way

Rated as one of the best drives in the country - The Great Inland Way lead us on an adventure to some astonishing natural landscapes. This is the tour of the very best of 'nature's gifts of beauty rich and rare' on offer. Stretching 2,691km it links metropolitan Sydney with the enchanting outback, concluding in Cooktown, right on the shore of the Coral Sea and home to the stunning Great Barrier Reef. The Great Inland Way traverses over mountain ranges with craggy cliffs, across wide-open plains to fields of sparkling gemstones, through world heritage-listed rainforests and welcoming towns.

2006 - Lillydale Host Farm

Lillydale is situated at the foot of Mount Barney in south-east Queensland. The area is know as the Scenic Rim and now we know why!

A weekend at Lillydale means you can do as little or as much as you like - it was fabulous. Just some of the activities we did: horse riding, abseiling, milking the cows and feeding the calves, spot lighting, star gazing, making damper, learning to crack a whip and throw a boomerang. Pam and Doug Hardgrave operate Lillydale as a working cattle property. Doug is the fourth generation of Hardgrave to call this area home. The food was scrumptious, the rooms wonderful and our hosts marvellous.

2006 - The Whitsundays

Considered Queensland's favourite tropical playground The Whitsundays is a special place. For three nights we sailed on board the gleaming white catamaran "Melissa" on a fully crewed luxury cruise being offered by Sunsail. A wonderful long weekend away - though we are sure we booked it for a month not three days.
